The mists have cleared. Adventure awaits!
about 4 years ago – Sun, Feb 02, 2020 at 12:55:47 PM

Greeting heroes,

With the near year upon us and I have news of trials and triumph!

Development

In the last few months since the campaign closed John and I have created an island creation guide, revised the rules based on backer feedback, and completed the content for our first stretch goal: not six, but seven more islands of adventure!

We've also worked with James Mendez Hodes and John Stavropoulos as sensitivity readers and cultural consultants. As part of that consultation, James, with help from John Stavropoulos, wrote a cultural primer on modern and historical Greece that will be included in the book.

We've also seen a few early drafts from our stretch goal authors. Their islands are looking great!

Timeline

We're currently running a little over a month behind schedule and plan to deliver the final game to you in late May or early June.  The delay is in part because of the holidays and in part because some of our earlier island ideas weren't exciting us as much as we wanted them to...so those were either refined until they shined or scrapped to make way for greater adventures! We also felt that 10 islands just wasn't enough for Agon. We bumped it to 11 with this update, and will have a total of 12 in the final release.

Agon on Roll20

We've contracted Tim Denee and Jakob Oesinghaus to create a Roll20 Agon character sheet for us. Tim and Jakob are the same folks that made the Blades in the Dark and the Band of Blades character sheets on Roll20... which are amazing! The design will include sheets for both the Hero and the Strife players and they'll be free to all Roll20 users once complete. They are currently on track to release in May.

What's Next

Today, along with this update, we're also sharing the latest draft of the game. It still needs editing, indexing, and the rest of the island art.

Over the next month we'll get those three components (edits, index, and art).  Then it goes to the printer, to the warehouse, and off to you!

Our Epic Journey
over 4 years ago – Tue, Oct 29, 2019 at 06:59:55 AM

These are the stories legends are made of!

Thank you. Thank you all so much for your support, you’re excitement, and your eagerness to make Agon happen!

Because of your support we’ve hit all of our stretch goals. We’ll produce a glorious physical full color book and we’ve commissioned additional PDF islands from Allison Arth, Ben Scerri, Whitney Marie Delaglio, Jeeyon Shim, Kira Magrann, James Mendez Hodes, Stras Acimovic, and Misha B!

What’s coming next

We’re working on the additional eight islands and the island creation chapter now. Once those are complete the book will go into editing, cultural consultation, proofreading, indexing, and finally printing.

As we complete islands we’ll release them here so you’ll get early access to them as well.

The Future of Agon

Agon is an immensely hackable game. In fact, John is already working on the first Agon supplement. Ride or Die: Netherzone Drifters. With domains like Cool & Sexy and Fast & Furious we think you get the idea!

We plan to release a CC-license in the future so you can make your own stuff using the Agon core rules.

Glory awaits my friends, and you made it possible!

Six islands tamed... but surely heroes such as you can make it eight!
over 4 years ago – Tue, Oct 29, 2019 at 05:51:55 AM

We've just recently crossed the $50,000 line, making Mendez's island a reality. That makes it six islands beyond those that will be in the book itself, funded through your constant efforts against Strife.

Up ahead? Stras's comes next at $55k. And beyond that? It's Misha B!

Misha B ($60,000 LOCKED) is a longtime gamer and GM and fledgling designer working on raising the next generation of geeklings. She's written for Chill: SAVE, Lovecraftesque, Misspent Youth, Dead Scare, Fate of Cthulhu, and served as an editor for #Feminism. You can find more about her at https://blackgirlgameworks.com/

We much enjoyed working with Misha on Fate of Cthulhu, and we dearly hope we'll get to do so again, with your help.

We're entering the final 72 hours of the campaign as of today. It's time to reach for the glory and finish big! We'll see you at the finish line, and shall raise your legend in song, unto the stars, nay, even to the gods themselves.

Thank you as always for your support!

Favorable Winds Bring Us a New Island and a New Author
over 4 years ago – Mon, Oct 28, 2019 at 10:42:29 PM

Hail, and apologies for the delay. We saw you bust through the $45k goal (Kira's island, a reality!) but we simply weren't ready for you to do that and have been scrambling to confirm our next stretch goals. You've set your target back on its heels, the glory is yours!

That said, we're now ready to reveal the new stretch author at $55k: we have a Stras!

Stras Acimovic ($55,000 LOCKED) (he/him) is a game-designing cryptid found when rolling a 6 on a random encounter chart in Central Colorado. He has 2 levels of Programmer, 4 of Game Designer, and a d6 hit die. Stras was first encountered circa 2009 in indie gaming circles, but there are records of him found as early as the 90s. Stras' favorite foods are PbtA and FitD games—particularly Scum and Villainy and Band of Blades.

Thank you again for moving us so far, so fast! We never should have doubted it, worthy ones. Your support is, as always, treasured.
